They just keep it for themselves as part of their memories with the dead person. Each person develops their own personality and character as they go through life, this is what makes the person so special and unique.
Whatever is the purpose for composing a funeral poem, it does not change the fact that these pieces of art were written due to the sadness of the person over losing a loved one. The majority of those who are asked to write a eulogy have a great deal of knowledge about the people they will be honoring. Grieve if you must, cry if you have to.
In some situations you may be speaking about the person from one point of view, family, work colleagues, golfing buddies, or whatever. Just like when our loved ones are at home with us and spend time in our living room. If you have any doubt about a particular story you'd like to share, get the honest opinion of someone else who is close to the family.
